DB XVI: le style Pauline

.

"She gave the impression of great Beauty. In fact, She was a great Beauty. She had large, heavily hooded gray eyes, was slender and tall, walked with the Grecian bend*, and wore clothes with an elegance I've seldom seen approached. Her voice was lovely, with tones like a clarinet." ~John Houston

These two photographs are from one of the many glorious lifestyle posts in Vogue's pages under the helm of Diana Vreeland. There are a number of voyeuristic trips Vogue readers took into the world of Pauline de Rothschild. If only there had been more.

Tall, handsome, an aesthete-a devastating Beauty. It is impossible to separate Pauline de Rothschild's appearance from her aesthetic- mirror images. Lithe. Complex. Exquisite. Rare. Gilded.

  7. Joni- I think this is exactly where my post heads-to me beauty is all encompassing. it is just as my mother and granMa said-but with the pretty is as pretty does. I have been searching all the published things about her for years, following all the homages, and literally getting out the magnifiers to see the little details. The entirety of her world and life and writing makes her a beauty-all fascinating. She also finished as one of the top 10-4 people named her to their list. pgt

  8. I love how she met her husband, seated next to him at a dinner party. For the first course she was conversing with the chap on her left. For the next course, she turned to the other side where Phillipe do Rothschild sat. He introduced himself and she exclaimed, "Oh, the poet!". He immediately fell in love. A delightful story and a woman with astonishingly good taste. If you were a guest in her house and fell asleep with your hand dangling over the edge, you awoke with a manicure. God is in the details.
