Last week I was in New York on business-and yes indeed pleasure. I spent an afternoon at Howard Slatkin's incredible apartment-visiting with Howard, a delightful host-and conversationalist.
No detail was spared in the apartment. I hope you get Howard's book-it's truly a keeper. The rooms are stellar-and the book chronicles the project from conception to completion.
On Thursday, Harry and Laura Slatkin hosted-with a cast of other noted hosts-a fantastic celebration for Howard-and his Fifth Avenue Style. My great friend Jesma came up for a few days and took these photographs-and the photograph at right is one of many floral creations in at the party-thanks to Stacey Bewkes of Quintessence.
As the holidays get underway (how did we get here so quickly), Howard will be talking to me about how he celebrates the Season-and to put us in the holiday spirit will be giving away Fifth Avenue Style to several little augury readers.
More about the trip in future posts!

Wonderful for you - such a memorable treat to see a Vision of Past Elegance wrought in recent years - there is HOPE that Artistry exists and not all of the Design World is Minimalism. NYC opened her arms to embrace you, I look forward to your posting. God is in the details! I'm there next week for JAR - sparkle flicker shimmer! Oh I cannot wait...a MASTER touched by Heaven!
ReplyDeleteIt was a lovely week. NY always makes me crazy! Yes, JAR, I know that will be fantastic. HSS plans to be there-you must look for him! Did the Frick, Dutch Masters and saw The Girl..., and The Met had so many wonderful things of note.pgt

DeleteOh Lordy! and there was the ever-beautiful and so, so nice Mrs. Blair!! I also adored the small table next to the larger table......so nice to have a place to put your glass! (why on earth does that look wrong to the vast majority??) It is so completely RIGHT!! What a wonderful and civilized (as always) post!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!
Penelope
Penelope, yes I loved meeting her, and she is a devoted reader. what a compliment! Both Slatkin homes are incomparable! So different, yet each flawless. Gaye
DeleteSounds like you had a wonderful trip and I loved seeing pictures from the party. I am currently obsessing over his book and Mario Buatta's - no minimalism here!
ReplyDeleteMarsha, it was great. Both books are so special. No minimalism so true-but no oversized drum shades- kitschy prints- and oversized porcelain poodles. ALL GOOD! pgt
DeleteYou are wonderful! Funny! I just posted a jewelry designer whose work is similar.....on Facebook.....(which I do not know how two work at all!!!
ReplyDeleteit reminds me of your necklace!! Think I can find it?? NO!! Maybe you can!

ps those two books.......Mr. Slatkin and Mario (we know from "Save Venice" (same trip!) and a few other encounters......(the rat on the long lead); and the cowboy hat with the pony tail.......he is a jokester! I saw him at "Hollyhock book-signing" he is so talented. His book makes me want to fall down!
Brilliant. 50 year ago decorating......I would not change a lampshade!
I told him your message......and he asked if you had "called me"? How did I know??
He is not drowning in email as I am.........I have no idea. Suicide is not an option! Too many grandchildren!!
Massive erase may be the answer.
