"Warhol looks like Whistler."
Maureen Dowd
"We live in an age obsessed with “reality” and overrun by fakers. The mock has run amok."Maureen Dowd writing about this decade. It will be "remembered for the collapse of the Twin Towers, the economy and any standard of accomplishment for societal prestige. TV and the Internet wallow in the lowest common denominator."
This concept struck me so keenly and what a visual concept! Maureen Dowd's sharp pen is about as sharp as ever in her December 1st Who's Sari Now? (good one)
Here's a Look-
I think Warhol has always looked a bit like Whistler-
.Maureen Dowd's column is linked in the post & here as well.
Quite an amazing juxtaposition although I would rather see these sublime Whistlers in a more contemplative setting. But you always pull something out of the bag, Gaye! Great images.

ReplyDeleteI can't say I would ever have made the connection, but what a fascinating concept to explore!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! You did a great job to compare those two!!!

Well done LA. You build a strong visual representation for Warhol as Whistler. And the mellifluous Maureen definitely sharpened the knives with this zinger. It was like one long unflinching sneer ending with the perfect coup de grâce:
ReplyDelete"Even before the Salahis swept in preening, the Obama staffers were there preening, standing around celebrating themselves. And of course, savoring the wonder of the Obama brand."
Yes this sort of thing is like a game-fascinates me! Maureen hit it out of the park on this comment EA.
ReplyDeleteThe event was way too much 3000? how about1000 or less. Quotes like "we wont be having large state dinners" all come back to bite you in the Salahi. G
