No Spring nor Summer Beauty hath such grace

The gilding of the Indian summer mellowed the pastures far and wide.
The russet woods stood ripe to be stripped, but were yet full of leaf.
The purple of heath-bloom, faded but not withered, tinged the hills...
Fieldhead gardens bore the seal of gentle decay...

The Pyncheon Elm, throughout its great circumference, was all alive, and full of the morning sun and a sweet-tempered little breeze, which lingered within this verdant sphere, and set a thousand leafty

tongues a-whispering all at once. This ages tree appeared to have suffered nothing from the gale.

It has kept its boughs unshattered, and its full complement of leaves, and the whole in perfect verdure, except a single branch, that, by the earlier change with which the elm-tree sometimes prophesies the autumn, had been transmuted to bright gold.       Nathaniel Hawthorne

I, a light canoe will build me... that shall float upon the river,
like a yellow leaf of autumn, like a yellow water lily!

  1. Very beautiful. The word gilded always seems so lovely to me.

  2. As Siddhartha laid on his right side, head facing west, he uttered his last words, "all things pass away. Strive on."

  4. Love golden pools of light, particularly in autumn and winter. Love the Klimt. What a storied past that portrait has. Triumph comes to mind.
