I am holding a straightened forefinger level at the square neckline of Mr. de la Renta's masterpiece green dress, watching carefully as my finger rises some 6 or 8 inches; sir, perhaps might you make this model just so for me, thank you in advance. I think I, with my Ines de la Fressange haircut and color, can carry off the dress now. Where are we going? Are we going to Hudson Valley's Darlington? If so, I am now ready. Shoes?
Flo, oh that it were so. But no. The hair needs a touch up at the roots after 6 weeks, and were I to be dressed- more likely in a lack evening skirt and white blouse. That green does haunt me though I will say. pgt
Channeling James? well Hamish Bowles says so maybe to a minor degree, yes, but de la Renta's stylistic antecedents date prior to James, indeed this collection paid homage to Balenciaga much more so than James. I still love the poison green, even though I'd be over dressed for Darlington.
I see it mirrored here certainly. Any voluminous vall skirt would have to take lessons from CJ I think-certainly he took cues from CB. I think there but so many ways to drap a skirt. Flo, I don't know if you saw my fun trip to Oscar de la Renta this summer or not -here is the link. I don't think you could ever be overdresses at D for RD. pgt
Oh, thank you for the summer trip, my ignorance is my bliss, I drank it up!
I have changed my mind, I think I will wear the Lee Jofa skirt to Darlington, a much better choice: http://www.biddingforgood.com/auction/item/imagePopup.jsp?image=/leejofa/117297822/6-IMG_3601.jpg&name=6-IMG_3601.jpg

ReplyDeleteOscar de la Renta channeling Charles James! Who'd have thunk it?
ReplyDeleteCould it be that nothing is new under the sun. I think so.
ReplyDeleteVery little is new, we just conveniently forget, to hopefully be pleasantly surprised :)
DeleteKLB-mostly I am pleasantly so! pgt
DeleteMr Worthington, I know.
ReplyDeleteAnon- I think so too.

Dearest Flo, whatever dress you choose to wear, you will be a welcome addition to any dinner party at Darlington House! Yours, Reggie
ReplyDeleteI'd take one of those dresses any day, by the way :))
