oh, how nice of you to post those! They're so cute with the boas -- what a delight to see talented women having fun with each other.
ReplyDeleteHi LA - I was never a big follower of either artist, but have caught all the cultural references regarding their anguished lives. Like you, watching these performances reminds me of what made them true "stars" to begin with. Stellar voices.
ReplyDeleteOh what a wonderful post! I love these two ladies. btw- Judy does something quite deft in that she modulates her voice with whomever she is singing. That's really generous. Smart too. It makes for great music making.
ReplyDeleteYour decorator loving readers might be interested in learning that one of Miss Peggy Lee's nearest and dearest friends was The Prince of Chintz, Mario Buatta.
ReplyDeleteThe DC-how wonderful to know that! It can all come full circle and it usually does thanks to my readers! Gaye
ReplyDeleteKarena, isn't this the cat's meow!
ReplyDeleteTownhouse-I loved the boas too-they really were having fun.
BB- they could go at it and genuinely have a grand time. Judy has always held a special place in my heart- her voice carried everything of her life. There is that something that no one else had-not even her daughters. There is another youtube vid that she talks about her career a bit and her mother-whom she says she was just really scared of. I can not imagine.pgt
ReplyDeleteVT. I noticed that, I have watched many of and listened to her sing,& remember her tv shows. I loved her when I was a kiddie and still do, how she can rip your heart out, expose it, bring its owner to tears, mend it and gently place it back for safe keeping with a lullaby. there was no other. pgt
ReplyDeleteOh yes, thanks for that. I just came back from my tax preparer and the news isn't so good. What a picker upper.
ReplyDeletethanks for brightening my day with this. Love both of these ladies :-)
ReplyDeleteGosh I hate to rain on this, but I've never - just never - been able to overlook my simple, dumb impressions from childhood, that one of these ladies was sick. When I learned that she was, and why she was, I was angry, and that is not mollified by her transcendence of sickness, which was daily. Somewhere here, there really has to be a corner for all of us to be utterly aghast, and furious with the corruption of a child - a child, need it be said, who repaid her debilitating exploitation with millions upon millions upon millions for the investors, from which she never could draw a day's worth of comfort. It's a beautiful and happy posting, and she will always be a lark, ascending, but over such ground as reeks of human bondage.
ReplyDeleteLaurent, that is so true. there is another vid were she is interviewed and the fragility and poignancy of it are shocking really. she is discussing many things-her audience, mother, family ,finance-all of it.
