Loulou de la Falaise, designer in her own right and muse of fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, died Saturday at the age of 63. She might be described as a light to Saint Laurent's ongoing battles with depression. She was the British born- the daughter of the gorgeous Irish Maxime-model for Elsa Schiaparelli.
She forged a life long friendship with Yves Saint Laurent in 1968, working alongside him in adorning his collections with jewelry and hats. She married Thadee Klossowski de Rola, son of the painter Balthus, in 1977.
Thank you for a splendid portrait of a lady who inspired many, too early gone. She will be remembered for long time.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first I learned of this. It makes me terribly sad. Curtis
ReplyDeleteshattering news
ReplyDeleteshe was divine!
Gaye, what a shock to read of Loulou's demise!
ReplyDeleteHave you seen No 5 Avenue Montaigne, the documentary about the making
of St Laurent's final collection? Loulou was the calming presence, she understood YSL down to his toenails, and she kept everything sane~all
of it apparent in that film. For some, the documentary is like watching
paint dry, for others, it is thrilling and inspiring. To see the skills that went
into those creations, the care taken with every detail, makes one want
to turn back the clock. RIP Loulou.
It is sad news. Mr Worthington, I just watched L'amor Fou last night and had ordered the movie you recommend. I posted on L'amor just this am. Now can not wait to see it No 5 . pgt

What sad news! I greatly enjoyed the portrait of LouLou in Alicia Drake's The Beautiful Fall, and started finding out more about her as an individual. Another style icon leaves us. I look forward to reading the whole article you so kindly reprinted. Thanks and condolences.
