  1. Love the costume a la Turque...love the arcana of those embroidered stars and crescent moons. Very fun. Love it.

  2. Philip, a wonderful visit from you today! Lady Mary fascinates me, I have read of her a great deal and this portrait is a thrill to see. I don't know much about it though I have tried to track it. I am so intrigued by the Stars and Crescent costume, obviously referencing her travels to Constantinople, she was young but by the time she went there she had been scarred by Smallpox, yet still it is said she could charm a snake-no doubt she had many opportunities while there. 3. Yes a charming image. I suppose this is what we would now call cross branding, or akin to the juxtapositions of objects in interior design: romantic heroine plus turban plus crescent moon :)
