I've always loved the amethyst-& collected them for years.Just one of the reasons I was struck by the Louis Vuitton dress printed in an amethyst geode pattern.
Soft, ethereal, floating.
Amethyst used in a large stone urn
There is a calm in the amethyst, a soothing quality in the color whether it is polished to silvery haze or dark as midnight.
Celebrated at my house and through the ages- Amethyst.
The lakes are something which you are unprepared for; they lie up so high, exposed to the light, and the forest is diminished to a fine fringe on their edges, with here and there a blue mountain, like amethyst jewels set around some jewel of the first water,--so anterior, so superior, to all the changes that are to take place on their shores, even now civil and refined, and fair as they can ever be. Thoreau
in a cabinet of curiosities, painting by Leroy de Barde.
I love this collection of gems on the tiered table.
Full on this casement shone the wintry moon,
And threw warm
gules on Madeleine's fair breast,
As down she knelt
for heaven's grace and boon;
Rose-bloom fell on
her hands, together prest,
And on her silver
cross soft amethyst,
And on her hair a
glory like a saint: She seemed a
splendid angel, newly drest,
Save wings, for
heaven.-John Keats
I often move the stones around the living room in the house.
& have adopted the color in various shades of pale round the house.
It pleases me-
Are you drawn over and over again to a certain stone or color?

I know your aware of the Healing POWER attributed to Amythyst dating from the Ancient days onward...Tina Chow used them in her amulets wrapped within bamboo for this specific reason.
ReplyDeleteI have large Geodes flanking my entrance door outside that shimmer with the sunlight, helped even more so by clear Quartz Crystal formations...blessing all who enter!
LOVE your shades of Lavender!
Yes, I would love to have a Tina Chow piece, almost as much as I would love to see those geodes! I know that is a beautiful sight. pgt
DeleteIf I could have one stone collection, it would be malachite.....but I do adore just even a simple rock stone.
ReplyDeletepve
I agree PVE.
DeleteWell; I am barely conscious.......coming out of the complete coma this post sent me into!
ReplyDeleteAmethyst is my birthstone.....I adore all shades of purple and fuchsia and those geodes I have collected for years.....(I am twice your age, I am guessing I have found 3!!) Obviously looking in all the wrong places!
I have always felt that I was just born into some lucky "group"; or "something" !
Maybe it is February......and Amethysts!!
I am (to quote my friend......"Wildly Blessed"
I love this post! And now I know the meaning of my loving all shades of "purple" and lavender all my life......and why my favorite "crayon" was always....."magenta"!
(I don't think it is still a color of crayon!!) How could that happen?
What a glorious post!
Penelope
ps why isn't your house in "World of Interiors"? Or is it?
now I have to go back (and everyone else should) and click on Hutton Wilkinson on "purple" or whateverhesaid.. magenta, lavender, ....(.whateverhesaid is more important than whateveranyoneelsesaid) about anything whatsoever!
Just "Google Hutton Wilkinson".......and do absolutely everything he says..! In my opinion........ You cannot go wrong!
Hutton knows!
I am thrilled that my birthstone amethyst.......is a subject of this beautiful blog!
thank you!
Penelope
Penelope, I was lucky that Hutton shared that quote in an extensive MONTH of lavender posts. I found however when I saw this Louis Vuitton print with amethyst that I had not exhausted the stone, color or topic! I hope I never do. pgt
DeleteGreat collection--I'm more of a rock crystal& agate person. But you just might be turning me to amethyst. Have a great 4th! Mary
ReplyDeleteAs PVE says-a simple stone can be beautiful. Yes indeed Rock Crystal!
Deletemy favorite color is cream...boring, I know. Your lavender so soothing.
ReplyDeleteThoreau and Keats excerpts are lovely
thank you Jennifer. nothing is prettier that multiple layers or cream and varying shades. pgt
DeleteYou know you can run them through the dishwasher every now and then- they get dust in the cracks and almost impossible to clean- short cycle, tiny amt of detergent- top rack- Had a rock crystal cluster once, so big we had to take it to the DIY carwash- - Amethustos- from the Greek- not drunken- hold a small one in one's mouth and you will not become drunk!
ReplyDelete286..., No I didn't know that. I can not wait to do that. I have used them in the bottom of vases from time to time. thanks for the housekeeping tip. pgt
DeleteThe black and white photograph is really remarkable... love everything about that room. Wish we could see it in color...
ReplyDeleteIsn't it? I must go back and reference that photograph. pgt
DeleteGreen....I am always drawn to green.
ReplyDeleteBut lately, I am drawn to blues too!
Green, my niece's favorite color. I have to say I love most colors-some more so for me personally, but I might say I've never met a color I didn't like. pgt
DeleteI love your amethysts -- I've been in a major blue phase lately. I've been drawn to all sorts of blue and bluey-green hues -- though I did just paint my living room a purpley color.
ReplyDeleteI'm drawn to rose quartz. I just stared collecting it. I found a beautiful small piece in Maine last summer that is a snowy-white pink. Lovely amethysts pgt. Love the piece that is spilling over on Penn's Flowers.
ReplyDeleteGaye, I thoroughly enjoyed the tour or your library, and of your lovely home...the amethysts are wonderful too!
