It is a consistent 30ish and lowing into the teens for five consecutive nights here in the South (North Carolina). Forecasting a brushing of snow with muff and fur scarf

  1. This painting is breathtaking! It is definitely fur-weather here as well. We are in the low teens right now...brrr!

  2. how I would love to have a portrait of myself in a similar style (lol -vain much?). The closest i'll ever have is a portrait of my grandfather as a young man (that could be my body double!)
We need photos of you in your fabulous fur that you mentioned!

  4. It is magnificent!

Now, for myself. I too wear fur trim although I cringe at the demonstrations which once took place outside the building at work! As far as fun coats, I will not buy a new one because I am sort of sensitive to this issue. I do however, wear the ones I inherited, with special love for a caricole and mink jacket that people still treat as if were new - although there must be a half century on it and then some!

Keep warm, Darling, I hope you are wonderful!

  5. THIS IS MY FIRST TIME TO YOUR BLOG.....THIS PAINTING IS STRONG, ELEGANT,AND I AGREE WITH TARA, BREATHTAKING. I LOVE ARTWORK, ESPECIALLY POTRAITS OF WOMEN. THANK YOU FOR SHARING IT. I COULD CERTAINLY USE THAT COAT IN OKLAHOMA. WE ARE HAVING SINGLE DIGIT TEMPS WITH HIGH WIND GUSTS AND BROWN AND BLACK OUTS DUE TO ICE ON THE WIRES AND THE WIND GUSTS. I ENJOY YOUR BLOG VERY MUCH.
I PARTICIPATE IN PINK SATURDAY WHICH IS A GROUP OF LADIES IN NUMBER UP TO 200 WHO OF COURSE LOVE THE COLOR PINK. IT MAY BE MORE THAN 200 BUT I HAVE BEEN AWAY FOR 3 MONTHS AS MY ONLY 33 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AMY PASSED ON TO HEAVEN FROM A BRAVE WAR AGAINST THE CANCER THAT RAVAGED HER BODY, ON OCT 23, 2009. THIS SATURDAY, WE ARE TO RECOMEND A NEW BLOG THAT WE FOUND FOR ALL THE WOMEN TO VISIT. I WOULD LOVE TO RECOMEND YOUR BLOG IF THAT WOULD BE OKAY.

  6. Six more inches here in the middle of the heartland. The good news: I planted quite a few new trees and shrubs this year. The near constant snow is like a water blanket. The bad news: the two pallets of mulch on my driveway that I had planned to apply after fall leaf clean up and before snow set in is keeping that part of my driveway snuggier than the rest of this snow-ice encrusted mess.

The painting is breathtaking as you can almost see the fur move with your breath. I love my Fabulous Fur (they have web site and an interesting story) coyote coat. The warmest coat ever...even with the PETA stares. Warm thoughts for the Tapps...and that Zetta has great taste.

  7. When my cousins were here from Denmark, they said they felt a little self concious in their furs...but, as they pointed out their winters are so cold that fur is really a matter of practicality. I am with the Blushing Hostess, if it is a fabulous vintage piece, go for it! That poor thing has been dead for decades and should not have died in vain.

  8. Gaye ... .
    Stunning portrait .
Muffs are so overdue for a return.

And I must jump in the fur vote here:
I'm a fan - especially after living winters in NYC/Chicago/Aspen in the 80's. Couldn't have kept warm without the prerequisite ankle length mink.
It was the best. Frankly, wish I still had it ( stolen from a nightclub coat check ) ... . it was a bit of a giggle because it had that Park Ave serious look on the outside and a Bright PINK silk lining! (Stephen Sprouse)

My current fav fur is grandmothers' circa 1952 Leopard stole with matching hat. It feels like silk and is the perfect touch to throw on over a jean jacket for a bit of warmth & attitude.

    Jjj

    p.s.
I'm in awe of your ability to post so often and with such thoughtful research ... . I feel I can barely keep up with you!

  9. I have no issue with wearing furs in this frigid weather, and I do wish I had a muff. Readers let me know if you find one!
