a bit gritty -reprise

.

" I believe I will dip my pink and white body in yon Roman tub.
I feel a bit gritty after the affairs of the day.
W.C. Fields

I've started hallucination,
fantasizing really-

about a new bath room.

something like this-

 or this-

it all started with this-

I have a start with this-

1st image my own old movie still
2nd image Country Houses of France
Model image from ICONS PARIS STYLE (excuse the poor quality-the small book's binding has pulled apart here)
4th image my own

  1. Save those for outside. The Darcy bath looks wonderful and the larger the room the better. I have a slipper tub that is beautiful, but be forwarned, the new versions, don't hold as much water as the old ones, thus, you can't sink down as far in them. Since it is freestanding, the hot water quickly cools down making for a short bath. I saw a teak bathtub in London once that was deep and beautiful.

  2. At 5'5" and shrinking, last year at 60 I removed the only tub in my house and installed a shower. I have been a tub girl all my life, but I could see the future and getting out of a tub like this might someday soon require a hoist!

  3. I look forward to seeing the results. I love baths and my home has no tub in the master bath...ridiculous! I often think of remodeling, but then shrug my shoulders and move on.

  4. W C Fields quote is priceless and set up with Jane Austen's sexy tub scene brought along a good chuckle from me.

  5. Mine was in use in the other house-outside. on occasion. I was wowed when I found an authentic french tub-I likely should sell it because I was-just as I said fantasizing.

    Home-always thinking. A Hoist?

  6. I should like to know, how we can ever improve upon my contemporaneous HBD's remark on the ineluctability of showers. Damn, if I can improve upon her native common sense, the ultimate laugh. Bless her, and bless our hostess for convening us.

  7. I love all of these baths, thank you for the new old ideas. And now I really want to rent Jane Austin for the 20th time. Does it ever get old?

  9. Whoever plays Mr Darcy, the role remains Colin Firth's. Nice bath as well!

  11. I had to come back again to look at the round tub! It's just so beautiful. And I did watch "Pride & Prejudice" again for the umpteenth time (not the one with Colin Farrell)! Of course, I loved it.

  12. hbd's remark reminds me of a house guest visiting my parents, years ago. The husband went upstairs to check on his wife after waiting some time for the woman to come down to dinner...she was stuck in the large claw foot tub!

    Loved the film clip!

  14. These images put "The Death of Marat" by Jacques-Louis David in my mind. Which reminds me -- apropos of your other post -- I have Marat/Sade in my to-be-read pile.

  16. There is no true luxury without a touch of sensuality.
A hot bath on a cold winter evening...
A cool out-of-doors-shower-from-the-hose in the warm summer afternoon...
    Bliss!

  18. Gaye,I don't know how you did that "bath" sequence but it was spectacular. I happen to own that Pride and Prejudice and Firth is the best Darcy and that bath sequence etc and then you included all the other scenes involving rain and water. It was just the best entertainment. However did you accomplish that ?
I was in Blowing Rock for the week end ( all fog) and came home to another bit of glorious entertainment. Those scenes with Van Gogh's paintings with that wonderful duet .. the words were great Now how did you come across that? and then meld them together? Really Gaye.. Those two productions of yours should be sold somehow..I loved them. Thank you Dorothy
