king of may

 photo from here

This song is an eulogy to Alan Ginsberg. He was crowned 'King of May' in Prague, Czechoslovakia for a May day celebration in 1965 and shortly afterwards expelled from the country when his sexual orientation came to the attention of the authorities. The reference, "crazy mother's son" refers to his mother, Naomi, who suffered from a form of mental illness."

  2. That was fantastic. I'd never heard this song. I love Natalie Merchant's voice, I have an old 10,000 Maniacs CD and one of her solo. I'm also rather partial to Allen Ginsberg. What an awful mother he had!! xx

  3. You are full of wonderful surprises. I would never have guessed Little Augury would be a Beat devotee. I emailed this post to Booktryst's head honcho, who is mad about Ginsburg, Burroughs, and The Beats.

  4. Nancy, how I love your Booktryst. One thing is for sure LA is always swinging from one tree to the next! I am glad it will find another reader with the honcho. There is a lot to be learned from AG-that has we would like to ignore. Gaye
