Seurat-
each brush hair of paint - meaning.
light, dot, dash- code.
what was Seurat telling us? mesmerizing.
read what we wish, as in life, often missing nuance.
"Art is Harmony. Harmony is the analogy of the contrary and of similar elements of tone, of color and of line, considered according to their dominance and under the influence of light, in gay, calm or sad combinations"- GS

In my nephew's art class (he is 4 yrs old) the teacher presented this painting and discussed the idea of how GS painted it.
ReplyDeleteHe liked the painting but what impressed him the most was that the ladies were carrying "special umbrellas called parasols"
Just like the detail photo you included in this post.
BTW, I love the quote!
EF, still loving your work! It is wonderful to know that ART is alive at 4-each of us spots our own element that makes art come alive- this is a magical one, a great way to start.these parasols do seem to take on a life of their own. Gaye
ReplyDeletewhen seeing them, i couldn't help but think of you...
ReplyDeletethis is so lovely. many thanks.
Victoria, don't you like the quote from him. It makes me want to read more Seurat, and thank you for tuning in
