Kips Bay

.
enduring images-

I did get to the Kips Bay Decorator Show House while in New York. Here are the take away inspirations. (all the images are from the VandM.com's design and tell with thanks).

The surfaces were what intrigued me most. Lots of lacquered walls- but no pictures of note from the Show.  The shagreen walls in the first image are paneled by Shagreen Art. One their website they state: Conscious of the need to preserve the Earth’s dwindling flora and fauna, we insist on using reforested wood sources. WoodSkin is 100% wood. No animal skins are ever involved! The second treasure is a band box of a space-a small dressing closet, featured, a diminutive mannequin in a fantastical Napoleonic inspired women's suit by  Maggie Norris Couture. The blog Master the Art of Style has a wonderful look at Maggie Norris and her work.  The inspiration shows the beautiful work of Sculpt du Fleur. The artist Nina Helms has created the effect of handcarved plaster- a lilac in cold white on a sophisticated deep grey wall.

There were many modern-way too hip-creations & machinations for me. I must be getting old, however I have been told I was born that way. I think that was a compliment. I have also been referred to as the 1000 year old woman- I don't think that was.

So, these are the things that caught my eye- You can go to VandM to take the tour-in depth, & tell me what inspired you most?

All the designers, artists and websites are in bold print-  click on them to go visit their sites.

  1. Okay, I have to take issue with this: "Conscious of the need to preserve the Earth’s dwindling flora and fauna, we insist on using reforested wood sources. WoodSkin is 100% wood. No animal skins are ever involved!"

Animal skin is a resource that renews itself far faster than any wood, isn't it?

  2. Hi, l.a., thanks for pointing this event out- I really did enhoy looking through the showrroms from the comfort of my own room with no hassle, no crowds and a cup of tea !!.Gaultier for Roche Bobois was something that stood out from the crowd to me( although I never used to be that fond of Gaultier ).Overall, nothing really overwhelmed me.....( sorry ) but it、s great to be kept in the loop by you.One cannot expect every exhibition to be the highpoint of one、s life!! I love the sculpture of the lady who carves in marble like Grinling Gibbon (forgot her name !).Thanks again for this lovely post!!!

  3. I have just returned from my tour at VandM....thank you for the tip. I'd say that your chosen images were my favorite, especially the Sculpt du Fleur. I might have to hijack that idea, as inspiration, in the future. K

  4. I am very intrigued by your selections and what's more think they appear to be the few of note. I suppose the days of a shining room by Charlotte Moss are gone. It is disappointing all around. The bright spot is the cause but there is no show stopper here and that dining room is an utter disaster. It appears that in trying to stay current & I also must add shamefully so the decorator in questions really lost her way from tasteful dining. your devoted reader.

  5. I've been toying around with painting a mural in my dining room, but your posting of shagreen walls has sent me into yet another direction! Thanks for the great photographs.
