promise

.

Mark Shaw was the unofficial family photographer to the Kennedy family, this photograph from 1963, was a favorite of Jackie’s; in a letter to Mark Shaw, she wrote “they really should be in the National Gallery!… the one of John, reflected in the table, like some wonderful, strange, poetic Matisse.” John, affectionately known as John John was three years old. His recent birthday, November 25th 1960, brings thoughts of his unfulfilled promise. In this photograph he is forever suspended in reflection.

the Andrew Wilder Gallery offers Shaw's editioned prints here.

  1. How the stems of the floral bouquet mimic the print on her dress with a bolt of Red coming from his little shorts and her Poppy print...all aligned without anyone really knowing it, as the FATES would have! His was a short life, but one shot thru with more than usual legendary BEAUTY.
