mourning

.

America the beautiful
it will be some time before I can look at her in this way again.
infanticide, fratricide, patricide, matricide.
suicide-a nation killing itself.

  1. I'll admit that I'm not exactly sure of YOUR stated point, but you are describing MY depression over a certain journalist I enjoyed losing their position today. The photos are hauntingly beautiful.

  2. that is a depressing one, this is about the wild abuse that the 2nd amendment has created since its 1791 inception, 220 years later.

  5. Haunting imagery. It reminds me of a large white marble head stone in the courtyard of the American Wing at the Met Museum. I can't remember the sculptor's name, but the image of her beautiful sorrow stays with me still.

Some things should not be forgotten.

  6. Dont judge an entire nation on one incident..better to look at how the people gathered together afterwards and definitely dont blame it on GW Bush...that's silly.

  7. Voicetalk, yes things do effect us permanently especially art and we are better for it.

Dee- Oh, of course I have heard that over and over-yet we tend to come together After not before, I don't think it a bit silly to bemoan the fact that we went to war needlessly and purposelessly and thousands of young lives were lost- and countless limbs-a nation of 20 something Veterans now exist. Silly? I think not.

  8. War is always a hopeless situation but has been with us since time began and will be with us until the end. It is certainly not just one leader's fault. Not willing to discuss politics on this site but that type of blame keeps the focus off of what needs to be done today to keep this country safe and bring back the American Dream of peaceful, safe coexistence with our neighbors. I would suggest spending your intellectual efforts on positive solutions not needless and non-productive blame...regardless of your political affiliation.

  9. Diane, it is that sort of tripe that makes me quite ill.

  10. We can not accept violence as a foregone conclusion to say that war has been with us and since time began and will be here till the end, Would make people like Gandhi redundant. Non violence is not a failed experiment it is something to strive for and hold dear.To bring attention to leaders that are not accountable is not only important but vital, one can not be casual about war. I applaud your efforts your heart and your point of view Little Augry.

  11. I guess I would simply say, no need to be so rude. You asked for comments and you should except them in the manner in which they are intended without name calling etc. I was under the impression this was a blog about beautiful things like design and artwork...if not then maybe I am on the wrong "channel".

  12. YOUR thoughts on the STATE OF THE NATION...are shared by MILLIONS. Does ONE really feel America is better for the 2 Wars wrought by a spoiled family and their cronies that have been in the Petroleum business for over 100 years - and their henchmen who served other Presidents' of the same thought process.

The RAPE OF AMERICA - brought to you by US Corporations and the Country Club Set. I now know why Titian painted the RAPE OF EUROPA.

Does anyone believe that WE are a nation of Equals? That 'Free Commerce' is for those who buy at 10cents on the Dollar-the Lost and Shattered American Dream of ALL owning a home? That it is our god given right to send jobs overseas for less than HUMANE wages and to deny ALL AMERICANS protection from medical cures?

America is an Idealogy - not borders...you can be in Iran or China and hope for Freedoms - that is what AMERICA is!

Daily we have people risk their lives crossing deserts blindly after giving thousands of dollars to smugglers, only to risk at the end of the journey, should they make it, to be held for ransom to be paid by families from the countries they left behind. The RELIGION OF AMERICA is to be worshipped Worldwide, not just on our soil but on THIS PLANET...which last I heard, NO ONE owns.

Pull the Shrouded Veil off, turn our faces to the LIGHT and begin to envision a World of Hope!

  13. Kaveri, of course we see eye to eye here. I am not surprised to get the sort of comments- actually good to get a reaction from people that never ever comment. I agree-Gandhi what a perfect example of faith in peace, and ML King. Unfortunately so many less leaders in modern times that are called to push against war. It is still a shock to me that we can technologically do so many things and yet the only solution to war is flesh-always young and blood. pgt

  14. Dee dear- I was not rude-to say any comment I make or anyone else makes as silly-sounds as if you are scolding a child. I did not call anyone a name-perhaps you are mistaken about some meaning.

No one can look at Art,or Design and not see what is ugly in the real world-In order to appreciate any of these things you have to see everything. this blog is about my passions, my point of view not just about beautiful things, Reality trumps fantasy here always.

  15. I have been worried about you because we can be so disheartened by the bad news we voracious readers consume constantly. I look to these sites for relief and beauty.
But also to know that others share in sadness about the things that are truly sad and frightening helps me to bear it all.
I read "Life of a Slave Girl" written by Herself straight through on Sunday night and had it heavy in my heart on MLK Day.
How can we understand what makes humans so cruel?

  16. Swan, you say it well and I see the same thing. I think of the great art wrought through an artists anguish over war- Picasso's Guernica always comes right in to my mind. His anguish is on the canvas and I think for an artist that sees what is right in front of them and what has a sees the past- shows where he is capable of going. thanks for the comment Gaye

  17. The first image on the link below is the work I this post brought to mind.

    http://nccsc.net/sculpture

After I wrote my post, I realized how much of this imagery followed in the wake of the Civil War. Another thing occurred me me: now that DADT is no more, my brothers and sisters will be able to die for their country. But this gives me no joy. Can we not see that the time for wars is over?
