HEM's LIFE

.

Today I was reading To The Manner Born and there-a reminder of the literary loss of the great giant Ernest Hemingway on today's date.  I like  the blog's -(& I quote) " irregular conversation about what's on my mind, observations on human nature, the decline of civility, and the ways men and women see the world differently."
"The decline of civility" - seems often to me- on the rise-nice to have someone interjecting what I really need and want to know:
something of substance-something of reading, writing & yes-humor and nonsense  and Hemingway.

Hemingway's LIFE in CUBA

listen or read at NPR
Nobel Prize-winning novelist Ernest Hemingway was 61 years old when he shot and killed himself, 50 years ago, on July 2, 1961. (link)

“Every man's life ends the same way.

It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another.” EMH

The Manner directs his reader's to today's Independent story about the possible whys written by John Walsh-I do the same here.

  2. all my thanks to you Sir Toad. I do admire your page and I mean every word. Our way sometimes in haste to post is dreadfully ridiculous-full of fluff and flatter and poufs and platters. I try for something different and sometimes fail, so glad to have inspiration to do better.

  3. Thanks for the memory of a publication which we have to admit was capable of doing things incomparably well and sometimes did, and of a writer who was enormously more diversified in his gifts than he wanted us to think. I'm grateful to find this referral to another blog and, of course, for the pursuits of this one.

  4. This was lovely to see. My mother saved LIFE magazines, like so many people, & I have both shown above. Thank you.

  5. Laurent-happy to recommend this delightful blog to you.
    Bruce-always.
Giulia-I wish I had some of these great covers. I am overrun with useless paper-something like LIFE would be preferable. pgt
