Georgia On My Mind

.
Nobody Around Here Calls Me Citizen, 1943

Georgia, Georgia, the whole day through
Just an old sweet song keeps Georgia on my mind.
Georgia, Georgia, a song of you
Comes as sweet and clear as moonlight through the pines.
Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you.
Georgia, Georgia, no peace I find
Just an old sweet song keeps Georgia on my mind.
Melodies bring memories
That linger in my heart
Make me think of Georgia
Why did we ever part?
Some sweet day when blossoms fall
And all the world's a song
I'll go back to Georgia
'Cause that's where I belong.

  1. Thank you. I just returned from spending the evening w/many of us who could not be down in GA but worked on the case for many years. I wondered if anyone in our part of the blogosphere would put something up.

  2. Just A Dream
    by Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson, 1945

I dreamed I played the numbers
    I played the horses, too
I dreamed I won so much money
    Didn´t know what to do
    But that was a dream
Just a dream I had on my mind
    When I woke up, baby,
Not a penny could I find

I dreamed I was in the White House
    Sittin´ in the President´s Chair
I dreamed he shook my hand´n
Said, Cleanhead, I´m glad you´re here
    But that was a dream
Just a dream I had on my mind
    When I woke up, baby,
Not a chair there could I find

    I dreamed I got married
    And started a family
I dreamed I had ten children
They all look just like me
    But that was a dream
Just a dream I had on my mind
    When I woke up, baby,
Not a child there looks like mine.
    :)

  3. My heart is so heavy for Troy and his family and for our nation. When will the inhumanity of the death penalty be accepted? How many innocents have been executed in the name of misbegotten justice? Mary

  4. Just speechless. Yesterday the glimmer of human rights has become exceedingly dimmer.

  6. my brother writes:Sis, Hoagy Carmichael probably would sing along on this one now as well as Ray. The Athens GA group REM announced they are no longer a group. Although it was not in any way linked to this execution it some how seems apropos.
