1500 books

.

I couldn't live a week without a private library - indeed,
I'd part with all my furniture and squat and sleep on the floor before I'd let go of the 1500 or so books I possess. -H. P. Lovecraft

  1. Love this library, and the ancient wallpaper which gives it a moody darkness.

  2. Oh, I am in total agreement with H.P Lovecraft. I would not part from my books or even those books I have yet to find.

    What a dream library.

  3. Books are my weakness, bordering upon a personality disorder- I remember spending $150.00 on a book, standing in line with a big hole in my penny loafers

    1. a weakness-Yes. I started buying my design and decorating books when I was just out of college-while looking for a job, those were the days. pgt

  4. Truer words than Lovecraft's were never spoken. I have gone to great lengths to assemble a library, and now have done this again in Taiwan (not forgetting to include several by H.P. Lovecraft). No matter how good public libraries and the internet are, you always gather books special to you that are not readily available, and you get used to working with them at your fingertips.

    1. Parnassus-words we can all agree with to be sure!Yes-they are stacked, standing, everywhere including the bookcases here. I have talked with my nephew about the tangibility of ideas in a book vs. the internet-there's something there.

  5. I so agree, no matter what I edit out of my home, my books are so cherished.

Although...I have a Kindle my children gave me for Christmas and I am exploring and reading at bedtime every night!

    1. I like the Kindle Karena. My mom has one that I borrow on occasion- many classics free and oddities too.

  6. I love books. But I have to say that having such a wealth of information at one's fingertips is a very satisfying benefit of the internet age.

    1. I do agree about the mode we use-and if we dig enough most anything can be found.
