that's LIFE june13

.

one of my favorite summer movies is The Parent Trap 1961, didn't every little girl and possibly boy, want to be Hayley Mills? Here from 1960-as POLLYANNA, a childhood tearjerker. It might be time for a Hayley Mills film fest.

  1. Hi! Not only was she my favorite actress! But that sailor top was my favorite top of my whole life! I cried when I couldn't fit in it anymore.

Had I been smarter......I would have saved it and framed it!

    so chic!

    What a lovely memory!

  3. I definitely wanted to be Hayley Mills, especially since I am a twin. I hadn't thought about Parent Trap in years--thanks for the fun. Mary

  4. Life Magazine is also the perfect summer read. We have two from the 1960s at our cottage. One with the moonlanding and one called Vactioner's Europe withe the Spanish Paradores. Makes me dream of a time when the waist line of bathing shorts were highter and optimism perhaps more prevalent?

  8. As you can see all of us of a certain age were obsessed with her. And I was no exception!! I watching every single one of her movies multiple times and indoctrinated my daughters early to the charms of Miss Hayley!! And I'm with Allyson - just LOVED Moonspinners. Don't tell but I think I may have to feature one of her films this Friday for At the Movies.

  9. I loved "The Parent Trap" and have seen it many times. It just stands out from my youth as one of my favorite films. It was appealing in so many ways. And Hayley Mills was just adorable! Loved the story of the girls trying to get their divorced parents reunited. And what a cast! Maureen O'Hara and Brien Keith.

  10. I don't know if the other gender undergoes the wanting-to-be-someone-else experience in that time; but I do know the wanting-to-be-with experience occurs, and even earlier, and enjoys rather a long run, at last count. Even now, one would greatly like to be with a cup of coffee, and maybe a nice old issue of LIFE spread across one's lap, with fabulous monochromes on the World Series. Maybe one would be Whitey Ford, now that you mention it. :)

  11. I had such a big crush on her when I was a kid; I think I even had photos of her on my bedroom wall!

Linnea, I love that you have added that to your cottage-a little time travel is good.

Q- yes Moonspinners-I hope it prompts a rundown from you!

  14. Laurent-Bruce. in posting these covers over the next year they will make us a bit nostalgic and remind us of my never ending story-things don't change-they may get bigger- smaller- longer- shorter- tamer-wilder. Our triumphs-our laments-and our dirty secrets all on the covers of Life.
