  1. Why, yes. I woke up this morning with a chamber pot perched on my head, and Dolly Madison in the kitchen boiling grits. Don't have the slightest idea how either of them got there.

  3. We got slammed with snow! Thank goodness we have laid in provisions. Plumbing still working. Chamber pots not required at the moment.

  4. Ah yes, some traditions never change.
Families do get a bit silly when gathered.

Hope you had (and continue to have!)
    a merry holiday...

  5. You all are over my head on this. I thought it was a Hogarth, so looked it up. After reading the following, still not sure of the artist: Samuel Collings painted the picture on which the engraving was based. He was influenced by William Hogarth. The centerpiece is the porcelain punch bowl, around which the action swirls, just as it does in Hogarth’s 1733 engraving Midnight Modern Conversation. Like Hogarth, Collings focuses not merely on drunkenness but on the absence of morality.

  6. Liz- I am the one who is impressed.I wish I had researched that a bit. Fascinating- some things just don't change-and here we are thinking today's Christmas celebrations are missing something!
