Thanks for posting this clip. As a vocalist, I am very familiar with this song, but have never seen the actual screen version (which is a shame, since I love classic musicals). How fun. Now I want to watch the whole thing.
This is my favorite movie of all time -no joke! I watch it at least once a month. Always perks me up out of a bad mood! I actually wore out the first vhs copy of it I had and then graduated to a dvd copy. Hopefully I won't wear IT out!
So glad everyone is in agreement! Stefan-love it! I still can not budge from Rebecca! Get Gigi out this weekend (and don't you love the Gabor in this one) pgt
Whats not to like: the charming Leslie Caron, UBER handsome Louis Jordan at his best, the fantastic Eva Gabor, Maurice Chevalier, Hermione Gingold!! Direction by Minnelli!! Music by Lerner and Loewe!! Conducted by Andre Previn!! There are not enough exclamation points for this movie. No wonder why it won so many Oscars!
How do you think of this stuff??? Classic!! I think I saw that movie a million times when my sister and I were kids. So fab! Ah, that Gigi! Leslie Caron has an Inn in France now with her son, I think.
In my little town in Oklahoma there was only one movie theatre. On my brother's 12 birthday (a Sunday), we went to see Gigi. Then children's tickets were 10 cents and adults 50 cents. My parents had forgotten that the adult price kicked in for 12 year olds. Our parents had given us 50 cents a piece (back then you could buy a whole mess-load of stuff to eat for 40 cents). It took all of my brother's money to get into the movie and I wouldn't share mine. (He was kind of a bully when I was a younger). I had to leave the movie before the ending to run home so my brother wouldn't try to beat on me. I still remember the run home, the rush through the door and my father saying, "You did what?" He wanted to be mad, but he just laughed. Being the youngest of five he knew what being the youngest was like. Took me years to see the ending of Gigi! Thank heaven, I finally did.
Oh I loved this movie when I was a little girl. I wanted Hermione Gingold's magnificent Parisian apartment with the red walls. So badly. I would open all the doors and make cassoulet all afternoon. Sigh.
