furious love

.

They say her eyes were the color of violet.

"I might run from her for a thousand years and she is still my baby child.
Our love is so furious that we burn each other out."

She was an extraordinary beauty.

'At thirty-four she is an extremely beautiful woman, lavishly endowed by nature with a few flaws in the masterpiece: She has an insipid double chin, her legs are too short and she has a slight potbelly. She has a wonderful bosom, though'

"Elizabeth has great worries about becoming a cripple because her feet sometimes have no feeling in them. She asked if I would stop loving her if she had to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair. I told her that I didn`t care if her legs, bum and bosoms fell off and her teeth turned yellow. And she went bald. I love that woman so much sometimes that I cannot believe my luck. She has given me so much."

She was a child star that exuded innocence and knowing .

'She is a wildly exciting love-mistress, she is shy and witty, she is nobody's fool, she is a brilliant actress, she is beautiful beyond the dreams of pornography... she is an ache in the stomach when I am away from her, and she loves me! ... And I'll love her till I die.'

'I love her, not for her breasts, her buttocks or her knees but for her mind. It is inscrutable. She is like a poem. '

Celluloid loved her. Men adored her.

' My blind eyes are desperately waiting for the sight of you. You don’t realise of course, E.B., how fascinatingly beautiful you have always been, and how strangely you have acquired an added and special and dangerous loveliness.'

'You will never, of course, because you are too young, understand the idea of loneliness. I love you better than buckets of brine poured over a boiling body, than ice cream laved on a parched mouth, than sanity smoothed over madness ...'

what do you expect from such a woman?

  1. Very nicely done, Little A.
But how did Ava Gardner get into the mix?

  2. Her Antony was awaiting her on the Golden Barge with Purple Sails...waves lapping on the shores of the Nile.

A Goddess of Beauty and Charity!

  3. Thank you for photos I haven't seen, for his words I haven't heard. In spite of such beauty, she seems to have been a "poem" -- the best praise.

  7. Let's face it - your tribute is better than mine, and certainly my favourite, thus far today

We have lost a great number of the luminaries over recent years, but I suspect that Liz will be the one the blogosphere rallies behind en masse in a way not seen since her great friend MJ also left us

    Best as always,

    B

  8. It's hard to accept that she's gone, isn't it? I was an adolescent and teenager during the the Taylor-Burton years, and she had quite an effect on my budding conception of female sexuality. I always loved her sultry exoticism--was she really British?!--and we all adored gazing at her incomparable beauty, which we can continue to do through her movies and photos. Thank you for your lovely, loving tribute to Elizabeth.

  10. Anon. What a extraordinary woman, worthy of something different, and as the Swan mentioned a great tireless worker for Aids.

Barima-No, but appreciate that. The loveliest thing was having my favorite blogs honoring her so beautifully.

Kristin- She was quite a poem. I think Burton must have been in love to the point of madness.

Diane- She was born to American parents in the uk is right I think. I mentioned recently that
she had aged without the help of plastic surgery. I admire that-I sense maybe she did not take her beauty as seriously as Burton!

According to some things I read today-she had endured 70 hospitalizations.

    And yes 8 husbands? pgt

  13. You've done a lovely tribute to Elizabeth and to a very important person in her life. Richard was quite the romantic wasn't he...and truly loved her. It feels strange not having her not in the world anymore.
    May she rest peacefully now.
