  7. I read an article some time ago about how private entertaining has fallen out of fashion. Balls are fundraisers, for which a committee must be raised and tickets must be purchased. Dinner parties are potluck, and we feel compelled to ask, "Can I bring something?" "Can I help clean up?" I have a confession. I almost never ask anyone to bring anything to my parties, and I almost never offer to bring anything to anyone else's. I believe it is so much nicer just to entertain others at my home and allow them to simply enjoy themselves, and then relax and be entertained at theirs. It just seems so much more to the point.
