to WEST WEEK

.

FROM HERE
(no that's not Kansas, but North Carolina)

TO THERE

Yes, heading to LA later this month for WEST WEEK at The Pacific Design Center. It's very exciting and my first visit to L.A. I'll be participating in a Panel there- TAKE FIVE: FOUR DESIGNERS TALK ABOUT INFLUENCE, FANTASY, AND HOW TO STAY INSPIRED. The Panel includes Charlotte Moss, Suzanne Kasler, & David Netto, talking:

The People that Inspire Me
The Most Exciting Rooms I Ever Saw
The Most Beautiful Beautiful Places I Never Saw

I'm honored to be included with this illustrious trio! I hope to see some of the sites while I'm there.

  1. Welcome to LA!!! I first arrived here a few years after Duke and gorgeous North Carolina. So do not be shocked at how "unbeautiful" LA can be; but it is always great with a different kind of energy. Sounds like an outstanding panel--congratulations. Mary

  8. West Week is so wonderful...I remember seeing Philip Stark and Jeanne-Claude and Christo's presenting their proposal to create the yellow umbrellas...so much and Renzo Piano's building is fine. Here is my hot list for you. Just a little sampling you could do in 1 or 2 days. Have a fabulous time and report back!

    Start down town...

Disney Center - Frank Gehry's master work

The Orviatt - fine Deco interiors & large installation of Lalique

The Gamble House Pasadena - a sublime Craftsman experience

Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece in Silver Lake

    Drive to Hollywood...

Yamashiro Restaurant - great historic Hollywood hangout. Yamashiro Hollywood it is just above the Grauman's Chinese - worth a stop in & see forecourt with all the hand prints & lobby

    Drive to Beverly Hills...

Beverly Hills Hotel - The Polo Lounge - just to be able to understand how show business really works. Walk around and see the Marilyn Monroe & Howard Hughes cottages.

Walk up and down Rodeo Drive window shopping

Drive to Santa Monica and have a walk on the Pier - ride the Merry go round.

Must go to the Getty Villa in Malibu

    Visit the Getty

and take a look at the fabulous tiles and view of the coast.
    Adamson House - Malibu Tiles

There is more but with these basics you will have a little taste of LA ... the great horizontal monster.
