this is Billy-he belongs to Barbara.

Barbara's Billy, by Eric.

you could say Billy is a beach bum-but don't tell his Mistress that
she'd say he's a beach stud.

the dachshund is one of the breeds that seems to be destined for celebrity-as Billy attests to.

it must be their photogenic qualities...

  1. I had Daschunds for years- The last pair I had was Dorothy and Albert- a smooth female and a wirehaired male-They were the most entertaining clowns ever and neighborhood favorites-I taught Dorothy to do tricks in French to the amazement of all- They would get invited to cocktail parties to which we were not invited-"We're having some people in for drinks -can Dorothy and Albert come over?"

  2. Little Augury, there's also the stop-action right-on-target dachshund painting by Giacomo Balla, 1912, Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash - which captures, in a nutshell, the feeling of walking a small and feisty dog.

  3. Oh I am so glad someone has come along to denounce the horror of spelling this breed's name. I grew up with Maxim, the "goddiest" of all dachschunds, my own -- same as all the other goddiest, in that particular -- and he assuredly held focus for the entire fractious family, for my precarious formative years. Everyone knew, "Max" is what made our whole catastrophe work, and when I think of him now, I'm sure you have exaggerated nothing here. And again, a radiant posting from the source of so much light.

  7. Oh my!! We are so excited to see Billy on Little Augury. Our absolute favorite read EVER. Laurent, have I been spelling it wrong "dachshund" for Billy's entire life? I agree with Gaye, LOVE is all you need. Adore this so much. Billy + Eric are delighted too! xxx

  8. Up at Hearst Castle, on the Central Plaza in front of the Main house, is a fountain of Galatea on a dolphin. This was the main "SQUARE" where all of Stars of The Golden Age of Hollywood would meet for the days jaunts and evening dances with THE best musicians of the day being brought up to entertain. In this fountain, is a little ramp still extant from the days of Marion Davies and W.R. Hearst dachshunds Ghandi & Helen who loved to wade in the pool of the fountain amidst water lilies. Touching to say the least...

  9. Oh, when Ghandi died...Marion had a full service conducted by an Irish Priest - as for Helen, according to Marion, W.R. cried and cried...and a tombstone was made that reads "Here lies Helen - my devoted Friend"

  10. As a owner of a dachschund (chi-weenie)your marvelous post melted my heart. Of course Billy was the star! Dachschund's truly are devoted by nature and I know mine has prevented me from being very lonely at times.
