Requiem: Sophie's choice

.
She loved Sophie.Sophie adored her.
She found a kindred spirit. Sophie found her soul mate.
She would question. Sophie never asked.
She would speak. Sophie remained silent.

Some dogs choose their own masters. Masters choose their dogs. With Sophie- there could be no other master. I like to say the dogs that are rescued have been temporarily misplaced- & as owner of Moses, there will be other dogs-but never again Moses. The same can be said of Sophie.
Sophie is her dog- my dearest of friends, Now that Sophie has found her- her world seems complete.
This is Sophie's choice.
& so it continued-day in & out-until last month when She discovered Sophie had cancer-and it was killing her.
Sophie was dignified to the end.She was not.
Sophie traveled swiftly. She is left behind, bereft.

Our dogs have infinite capacity to love us. It is remarkable. What they know of Us surpasses our understanding of them. If it were up to them they would live alongside Us forever.

  2. Oh, noooo. How true, how beautifully said, how sad.

How bereft we are without the pure, exquisite love of our dogs.

  4. I believe they stay with us! (sometimes come back!)
(Denial and "magical thinking" works for me!)
"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

    Author unknown...
this is what I believe! and how lucky we are to have these beloved pets who steal our hearts!

There are no "replacements"; however; there are so many wonderful pets euthanized every single year; I RUSH to find an adoptable dog and cat when we lose one!

    We have been so lucky!
We have found such marvelous and divine dogs and cats........in shelters and rescue programs!

I exhort your friend to reach out and rescue! (there are rescues of every single breed!!) I was on the beach here ; (I grew up with Standard Poodles); one came bounding up to me! I said; "Where did you find this?"
"She said, "her owner died" I found her at "standard poodle rescue" online!

the most wonderful dog you could imagine!
IN a new and wonderful life as an adored dog!

I hope you will send this to your friend with "Sophie"!
We lost one 6 years ago.. A black Standard Poodle....name: "Sophie"!!!

    Much love,

    Penny

  5. Oh! I completely missed this was YOUR beautiful dog!

My advice is the same! Do not go long without a dog. It will destroy your heart! (I completely believe that!)

Not a "replacement"; but a "rescue"

Go look! there is a dog in a shelter looking for YOU!

I am so so sad for you!

  6. My heart is breaking for those that love Sophie. She is not far.
Our dogs bring us through the worst of times and keep us company during the best.

  7. I like to think that they never leave us, they remain with the love for them in our hearts. Losing a much loved dog is heart-breaking, each and every time, and this requiem for Sophie is beautiful. Best hugs to the bereft owner. Erika (with Fearghus, Molly and Winston all sending licks and leans as well)

  9. Sophie belonged to my dearest friend-sorry for any confusion. I've added links to the post with other stories about Sophie, her brother ARGOS-who thrives, and Sophie's family. I believe as you-that dogs are the better part of Us. pgt
