  1. Do remember someone can & will always be offended. That is their problem, freedom of speech......theirs or yours.

Please never stop voicing your opinion, many of us out here appreciate it.

  3. I see this time and time again, mostly on my favourite blogs whenever someone sticks their head above the parapet... there are always a few, perhaps they should re-examine the word democracy and come up with something more intellengent than merely asking to be unsubscribed.

    Bravo

  5. Freedom of speech AND this is YOUR blog for pete sake! You should be able to say what you want. Win a few or lose a few - one of the best things about living in America is the beauty of freely expressing our thoughts. If we don't occasionally listen to one another - how will anything be solved?

    1. that Freedom it would seem today- is only good for those we align with. We have lost many freedoms after 9/11-and with it I fear our conscience. pgt

  6. My feeling regarding your political post is that readers of a style/decorating blog subscribe because they are interested in both areas and want to enhance their knowledge of same. For those with political points of view who are interested in learning more about politics they are hundreds of sites hosted by people with extensive backgrounds in political science to choose from, and if they are partisans of a particular political point of view, again, the same choices are available. I have subscribed to your blog for quite a long while, love your posts and will continue to subscribe. However, I found the political post very off-putting, not because I am a supporter of any particular point of view, which I am not, but because I felt you were "baiting and switching" your readers, who came expecting one thing and got something quite different. This is not meant to be a criticism, but just one person's observation.

    1. after writing this blog for 4 years, I know it is no one thing. Never would I bait and switch. I've always had diverse topics-from one day to the next. I label posts and there are at least 33 under the title "politics, forgive me" I suspect that is the highest other than Books. Certainly books and design take much of the space, but as a "stream of conscience" blog I can vouch for that conscience. pgt

  7. It's your blog, and I've enjoyed it. We have never been on the same page politically, I figured that out a long time ago. Like I said, it's your blog. But like Malmaison, there's an expectation when we read this blog, and then there's the reality. My expectation is that here I find a respite from my daily menu of reporting on what seems more and more like the Bunker Mentality that's taken hold of the White House. It's ugly, that White House, the lies, the phone records (got Verizon?), the IRS, the Benghazi murders, and oh so much more - it's not a good place, but this is, little augury is...I can appreciate you wanting to voice your political views, but the way you did it, it was like throwing a pie into your dear readers' faces. Maybe a bit of a segue would have helped the "in your face" effect of your Tea Party post. I'm not a member of a politcal party, tea, or republican, or democrat, not a one - I'm independent in word thought and deed, and I'm sorry to see that you've succumbed to a party line. You can envision how a room will look and you'll be right, but you don't seem to be able to see through the deceit and treachery that lives in the White House - nor can you conjur up a vision of the kind of country you'll be living in if this administration is allowed to continue. ... I voted for Obama the first time. Two years into it, I was wishing I hadn't, and the night "Obamacare" was passed ("we have to read it to know what's in it" - then Speaker Pelosi), I knew we'd begun the slide and it would get worse, and it has. I'm shaking my head, because 1- a reading woman, a bluestocking, an artist, should be up in arms about Obama & Company stomping all over your 1st Amendment right. And after today, knowing that 110 million Verizon customers (and do you think it's just Verizon customers?) are having their personal information sent directly to the Feds, I'd think this flagrant violation of the 4th Amendment would enrage you. But it doesn't and I can't figure out why. It's a good thing to be passionate about some thing or many things, but remember, passion can be blinding as well. It overwhelms gut instinct and common sense. And when it comes to anything and anybody connected with Obama, you're going to need all the common sense you can muster, if only to save your rights as an artist an an American.

  8. PBB, Never have I as an artist felt threatened by the Obama administration-that is laughable. Do you think that Obama actually started this information gathering from Verizon, and not for a moment do I think that it is only Verizon, I may be a progressive-but I am a realist and not an idiot. We grew up and it got real on Sept 11 2001-we lost our innocence-we also lost some of our freedoms. Not understanding that is seems naive. I voted for Obama-and if "obamacare" had not been a part of the first years-I would have been shocked, it was a vital part of his platform. The truth is-No one-Bush, Obama and the next and the next gets to do what those that voted for him. Yes, I've disagreed with many things he did early on and today-surely tomorrow. Thank you for continuing the read-and I accept your pie-back in my face, many thanks.PGT

  9. I appreciate all your comments and encouragement, even getting opposition comments is a sign that readers care-whether they come back is up to them. That's for them to sort out. xxoo Gaye

  10. I did have two readers contact me to ask to be removed from a subscription list, that is what prompted this post-I am hoping everyone will stay on. There will always be the sweet-the sour-and the pie in the face-we all need it now and then. pgt
