  1. It was difficult to celebrate the DOMA news without the sheer shock and disappointment of the day before it. As a friend of mine wrote: "SCOTUS: zeros to heroes in 24 hours."

    1. yes, got that right. It would be unfathomable-but it is my take on our country at the moment. pgt

  2. Of course it is tempting to agree with the quotation from Eudora Welty, but there is one jarring apprehension of exception to be experienced, in the postcard from Venice, which is indeed subject to disappearance, and now faster than ever under corrupt municipal and national leadership. I suppose this is the point, however.

    1. Laurent, that's it. I think EW can put a point on it with few words-what an way she had with them, not to mention a camera. Her novels-and the books about her photography are some of my many many favorites. pgt

  3. Your ALTAR I assume, for it has your touch of layering! So right YOU are Ms. Gaye! June 26th was a very special day, for WE celebrated our 25th anniversary of Marriage, dinner at THE SUNSET TOWER after cocktails at the BEVERLY HILLS HOTEL with curators of Met Costume Institute...on ALL lips and in the streets was the realization that now the teachings of Bitter Hate, Hidden Love, and Verbotten Unions of Soulmates was legally a thing of the Past. At the table seated next to us at dinner, was Sean Hayes who played JUST JACK the FIRST openly Gay character on television in WILL & GRACE...what a better way to to celebrate OUR 25th with HOPE that ALL can share the Dream of Love that KNOWS NO COLOR, RACE, SEX OR SPECIES...even the Animal Kingdom has True Love stories within, spell GOD backwards and the definition of Mans Best Friend is revealed to ALL on Earth.

    1. yes the Altar is always shifting, though I find my allegiances seldom do! I wish you a bountiful many more years. the world is black and white-still and seems it will be, I just happen to see things in beautiful greys. I can't know how Ms Welty would take it all in- except to say Like I said before, "Never think you've seen the last of anything." pgt

  4. The only thing that stays the same is change, right? That's what I hear Eudora (a lesbian it should be noted) as saying. In these two cases the battle for gay rights will now proceed at the state level for awhile before the high court weights in, while, in the other, Congress will have to get its act together to get their numbers right. Needless to say, both will require a great deal of work. Can it be done? Yes!

    1. Daniel, yes I suppose one could look at Ms Welty's wit that way-but being that she was a Southerner, and saw what she saw and was such an acute observer of her fellow man...(dear God, please let there not be a lesbian, a gay man, a Southerner, Northerner, one day-just HUMANITY. No? Is it that way there too?)Even in ideal circumstances,Basically what she is saying-there is always prejudice, ignorance, hate, it will always rear its ugly-damned ugly head. I celebrate what was won this week-but by God I hate what was lost. I still have hope, and yes I do live in the State of Art Pope, NC at the moment.

  7. Just remember...as a dear friend said to me in the 1970s - LIFE IS TOO BE SEEN IN SHADES OF GRAY, NOT BLACK AND WHITE, too bad Children aren't taught this at a young age, but then youth always is seen thru rose tinted lenses! X
