Anatomy of a HOUSE

.

My clients have been in their House for about 4 months & as she says-"it's beginning to look like Home,"-that is always music to My ears. I dropped in today to put some flowers together for an event at the house and took some photographs.

Some rooms are wanting- Some want for nothing.
It is a process.

Here in PIECES- the House that is becoming a Home.

Where will this chair be in another 6 months?
just Wait & See.

  1. I love the fabrics and upholstered pieces--the blue/gray of the dining room is deep and warm, unexpected for a blue. Please show me more. Mary

  3. I think it's a house I should like! It looks very livable and relaxed. Good to see the components and glimpses of the whole. As to the baroque painted chair ... If that's not something to build a room around or treat as a piece of sculpture, I don't know what is.

It does feel like home, lived-in, and real.

  5. Jones, In the Dining we have talks of a Gracie paper at some point-the grey was a happy ending til then. There is a silver leaf tea paper on the ceiling in there that I did not feature. I hope to illuminate various rooms as time goes on.

F&F, I agree the details can make all the difference!

  6. Blue, it does have those modern elements that I think you prefer. Young clients with young children and interested in a real mix of styling. The chair has moved from Living Room to Foyer- between my client and I we have an ongoing musical chairs! It is one of a pair. The 1930's French loveseat in the plum mohair is in the Foyer-Walls in there are a plum brown horsehair paper. pgt

  7. Bruce, the colors are very soothing, and a number of rooms on the monochromatic side-the Library-green lacquer walls is by far the most colorful on the lower level. The green hanging glass chandelier is in the Master and that is otherwise a soft green with some grays and pinks.

  11. I love your blog, and your work on the house. I would like to make a suggestion about your photography. You might fool around with taking your photos without a flash. For me, the difference in the way pictures look in natural light is amazing. See if it would work for you. Sometimes, it depends on the time of day in the room, the sunniest time or one with great shadows, and over riding your flash setting. Sometimes there is a little bit of a blur, but that can look very romantic. At any rate, your design is wonderful and your blog is always enchanting. :)

  12. Loving the colours and quite taken with that dusty mauve sofa!
Beautiful! A delight to peak behind the scenes and see your fine work!

  13. Stefan, thank you. Yes, more to come in the fall.

Thea, that sofa! I purchased at Randall Tysinger and the fabric was pretty horrid. When the mohair went on it- I really did not recognize it when I went by on Thursday- a real shockingly pleasant surprise. Yes the lines caught my eye and it was well worth it. pgt

  14. Dandy, thank you. I will take these great suggestions under advisement. Honestly some of the photos were so dark in a 2 o'clock sun a number in the natural light were unusable.. I usually am snapping on the run and I don't always focus- as it were! pgt

  16. I 'specially like what looks like a linen curtain with a vertical border of birds - the arrangement of fold and border.

And you'd know you were finally grown up when you had your Gracie wallpaper!

  19. PVE- You have only to ask!

Rouge- the curtain in the bath- that is a Lisa Fine fabric and a very wide grosgrain type trim-the fabric lent itself to the design well.

    Q. thanks, a lot of attention was put into the lighting-it is so important.

  26. Life of Style, thank you. the paper is by Philip Jefferies.

Townhouse- I'm glad you came to see what is coming of the place! The bathroom- powder is tile-that is the green. The master bath is a handpainted paper to appear as shagreen.

  27. Belle de Ville, I have enjoyed playing with these colors-Using grey somewhat thru-out the entire lower level, but varying it to evoke different moods rather than just "gray" has been exciting. thank you.

  28. Mrs. Blandings, Thanks! I will show more as we perfect it- and we will to the degree-that a house must be a home and both my client and I refuse to perfect it too too much. Gaye
