Grinling Gibbons - Venetian Lace Cravat





Carving by Grinling Gibbons in limewood, with raised and openwork carving, 1690. & Venetian  lace cravat at the Bowes Museum, Northumbria, 1675.

  2. Hi, gaye,

    I'm currently reading "The Lost Carving: A Journey to the Heart of Making," by David Easterly. Easterly was the one chosen to replace a Grinling Gibbons carving that was lost to a 1986 fire at Hampton Court. He spent a year at Hampton Court to duplicate the carving.

  4. NO WAY! HOW COMPLETELY ASTONISHING THAT THIS IS CARVED OUT OF WOOD!

    A RELATIVE of mine HAD A HOUSE IN NASHVILLE..."Boxwood"...PURPORTEDLY HAD A LIBRARY WITH "GRINLING GIBBONS' CARVINGS....BOUGHT IN ENGLAND! I was invited......stupid me.,.did not go! but my friend's daughter bought it!

    ad it is lovely!! Do you think it was "Grinling Gibbons"?
